Privacy Policy
IELTS Band 8 (“we”, “us”, band8.org) is an independent IELTS preparation platform. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it deliberately short and plain.
What we collect
- Account details. We use Google sign-in only. When you sign in, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture. We never see or store your Google password.
- Practice data. Your answers, scores, progress, and the sessions you complete, so we can show feedback and track improvement.
- Speaking recordings. If you record a speaking answer, the audio is stored privately and automatically deleted after 90 days. It is used only to transcribe and score that answer.
- Writing submissions. The text you write in practice and mock tasks, used to generate feedback.
- Technical data. A single session cookie to keep you signed in, plus basic request information (such as IP address) needed to run and secure the service.
How we use it
- To provide the service — deliver practice, score your work, and track your progress.
- To generate AI feedback on your speaking and writing.
- To keep the platform secure and prevent abuse.
- To respond to your access requests and support messages.
Cookies
We use a single essential cookie to keep your session signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share only what is needed with the services that run the platform:
- Google — for sign-in.
- Cloudflare — hosting, request delivery, and private storage of speaking recordings.
- An AI provider — your speaking transcript or writing text is sent to the configured AI service to generate a score and feedback. We do not send your name or email with it.
How long we keep it
- Speaking recordings: automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Account and practice data: kept while your account is active.
- You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time.
Your choices
You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Email support@band8.org and we’ll take care of it.
Children
The platform is intended for test-takers aged 16 and over. It is not directed at younger children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
